In this course you have been encouraged to relate theories and models of human development to your own personal experience.
What is something important or significant you have learnt about yourself through your participation in the course? How did you come to this knowledge?
Something significant I have learned about myself participating in this course is that a lot of humans share similar experiences and crises (Erikson's stages of psychosocial development resonated the most with me). This way, especially as counsellors, we can help others the better we understand ourselves and our experiences
Learning about different theories in counselling has been a great experience for me. I can clearly see myself relating to some of the theories.

In the portfolio, I talked about industry vs inferiority, the concrete operational stage, self-esteem, self-concept, and self-efficacy. It made me realise why I felt the way I did as a child and validated my experiences.
I can’t just pick one thing, but this paper has really taught me a lot about myself, and I’m grateful for that. I’ve realised that my past emotions and decisions were valid, and the way I choose to handle them now is healthy. I’ve learned that self-care isn’t selfish — it’s necessary. Writing reflections and doing these assignments have shown me how important self-awareness is for growth and learning.
I think it was around the attachment theory thinking about my early childhood years and how it has gone on to effect me. Also thinking about how I was with my own children in their early years in relation to psychosocial development theory was a significant learning point in this course for me.

I have learnt to give my younger self a lot more grace. For the experiences and challenges i went through led me here and that these theories of development have given me a lot of insight into why i have made certain decisions in my life leading me to this moment. I learnt that family and support is actually a really important part of adolescence and i want to give my younger self for making it through that period without that.
To trust, to trust that I have the tools and experiences needed to be not only an amazing counsellor but an awesome human x
Not isolated solely to the human development paper, but I've discovered that I have a deep desire to attempt to connect to something "spiritual" in spite of my deeply rational brain.
There was no single moment that I came to this conclusion, it is like a mosaic who's form has only been revealed as things were broken and rebuilt into new shapes.
Through the participation of this course, human development, I have learnt that maybe my adolescence years were more turbulent than I previously remembered, after researching this human development stage and theories around these stages, I have been able to process significant events with some clarity, which is resulting in personal growth, while developing counselling skills in the process.

What is something important or significant you have learnt about yourself through your participation in the course? How did you come to this knowledge? The importance of simple things like self care, and how once we can look after ourselves we can be a better version of ourselves for others. And it doesn't need to be grand expensive gestures. I've found that finding time for a simple walk and appreciating the small things provide a feeling of calm, especially during stressful assignment times.

Through this course, I’ve learned a lot about myself and can now make much more sense of why I went through the challenges I did, and how they’ve shaped the person I am today. Understanding different theories of human development has helped me see how my life experiences and circumstances fit together, giving me a greater sense of self-awareness and compassion for my own journey.
